If I were to have posted a few hours ago, I would have written about how I was starting to feel like a third wheel around the two closest friends I had made at my new job, and how I was starting to wonder if there might be something between them. Which wouldn't be that big of a deal, except that he (D) is engaged and she (A) is married. (forgive the lack of full names, I want to respect their privacy)
Well, I just went to a concert with D, and right before we entered the venue, he told me he and his fiancee had broken up. Which was a blow, especially because we couldn't talk because there was a concert going on and we were shouting at each other. I told him I didn't want him to feel like I was ignoring that piece of news, so later during the opening act we stepped out, me to get drinks and him to get food, and I asked him if he waned to talk about it.
D kinda shrugged it off, said it had been building, but said A wouldn't mind if he told me: her marriage was breaking up as well. So that's when I asked him what had been on my mind for at least the last week:
"Is there something between you two?" (meaning between him and A)
"Yeah," he said. "That's why."
So D's fiancee is packing her bags and A and her husband are on very shaky ground. On the one hand, it's tough, but on the other hand, I'm happy for them. Neither of them are the cheating type, but they seem to have found this connection, and--albeit while both of them were in committed relationships--they get along really well.
I'm meeting A for coffee in the morning. We're gonna have a lot to talk about.
